Art In Corvallis (Final Part 1)

For a small college town, Corvallis, Oregon sure does encompass a lot of love for art. Rooted in a community of artists, Corvallis plays a large role in the collective $687 million and 22,299 jobs contributed to Oregon’s economy in just 2015 alone, according to the latest Arts & Economic Prosperity study from Americans for the Arts.

An article by CBN posted in 2017 interviewed the director of Business Oregon, Chris Harder, who says that “arts and culture play a key role in healthy, prosperous communities, particularly in rural Oregon.”

Established in 1960, Americans for the Arts is an organization aimed for advancing the arts in America. They conducted their fifth Economic Prosperity study about the economic impact of the art community in Oregon. Robert L. Lynch, President and CEO of Americans for the Arts, says that “the arts are an investment that delivers both community well-being and economic vitality.”

The art community is a vital heart beat in keeping Corvallis alive. From local shops to a The Arts Center, local artists can get their art fix all throughout Corvallis streets. One particular shop in downtown Corvallis, Art in the Valley gallery is a local co-op for art. This gallery first began in Toledo, Oregon, in 1991, then moved into Corvallis. Local artists can become a member and display their art or sell some of their pieces on consignment. This gallery is full of mixed mediums -- selections of local fine art including paintings, pastels, original prints, photography, pottery, wood vessels, jewelry, coasters, tiles, glass, and sculpture. The gallery changes their exhibit once a month featuring different artists each time. They also have exhibitions during the weekly Corvallis Arts Walk.

The Arts Center’s Artist Accelerator Program

The AAP is an educational program for artists of all mediums. Classes and workshops are offered throughout the year in variety with a mission to support local artists and increase opportunities for flourishment. Skilled instructors invite artists to enhance their creativity by perfecting their craft or learning a new skill.

This coming summer 2018 will have a series of three events called Arts Alive! where the community can come together and experience, learn, and observe different mediums of art.
