There 'Ain’t No Way' you’re not going to dig @dre_who_’s new beat - (Music Review)

It was late November of 2005 when the all too well known (now) artist Chris Brown dropped his album literally titled “Chris Brown.” I was in my freshman year of high school and was right at the beginning of feeling the Young Love that Chris made sure to remind me there wasn’t no way I could do without.

I remember it like it was yesterday - cleaning my room (yeah that was my only worry back then), picking out my favorite Baby Phat outfit for school the next day, and jamming out to Chris’s album all while thinking about my boo. That was a time of phone calls until the sun came up, actually being excited to go to school, and still having to wait in line for the newest pair of Jordans. Although the times may have drastically changed, one thing still remains the same - and that’s that good music is euphoric.

You could imagine that I honestly had not-so-high hopes for the remake of this beat - simply because the first one was already so dope. To my surprise, I was wrong. I was sent this beat on a late night tip and randomly before sleep I decided that I would give it a listen so that I could sleep on it. Although It starts off with a new school drop you immediately know where the sample comes from. Sometimes you have to listen for a while to decipher what the original was, but with this, I feel it’s confidently telling the listener, “Ain’t No Way you’re not going to dig this.” The familiarity mixed with confidence that exudes the beginning of this remake had me hooked.

Y’all remember that young feeling, that good good feeling, that no-worry feeling? Let’s just say, this beat did that for me. It took me back, but not so far back to remember the heartache that came with that Young Love - it also cohesively kept me up to date with my new life loves. Taking me back to the euphoric feeling I felt in the fall of 05’ and still reminding me that at 25, one of my favorite things to do is grab a drink, hit the lounge, and vibe on.

Coming from someone who listens more to the lyrical aspect of songs (I’m a poet, don’t judge me), this beat had my attention from the gate. With the way that beat enthusiasts are always talking about how beats make them feel as soon as they drop, I’ve never really figured out what exactly it was that I was feeling - whether it was purely lyrical, or because all of the components intertwined just created magic. Well, let me tell you beat lovers - I think this one might just have brought me over to the dark side.
